The beaver sighting tour is one of the afternoon and evening tours in the city of Ushuaia. We immerse ourselves in the wonderful world of ecosystem engineers and also learn, through the guidance of experts, about their work and the methods of building dams and burrows.
The tour begins upon arrival at the mountain refuge on the shores of Lake Fagnano. Afterward, we will enjoy a delicious snack and start our hike, venturing into a century-old lenga forest until we reach the beaver area.
We will have the opportunity to explore several beaver lodges with the certainty of spotting them in their most wild state.
After the sighting, we return to the refuge where we will savor an exquisite 3-course dinner.
It is worth noting that in 1946, with the aim of increasing diversity and promoting the fur industry, 20 pairs of beavers were introduced to Tierra del Fuego. These rodents came from Canada and soon multiplied excessively. For over 70 years, beavers have inhabited Ushuaia, forming a current community of 200 thousand individuals. However, this species is not native to Tierra del Fuego, and its history ended in an unexpected plague.
